Starting on 30 September 2016, the NSK from Kapital to Capital. Neue Slowenische Kunst – An Event of the Final Decade of Yugoslavia exhibition, the first major survey show in Russia of the Slovenian art collective Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) will be on view at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow. The exhibition was developed by and first staged in Moderna galerija in Ljubljana last year, and has traveled to the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands earlier this year. A Laibach Representative, Ivo Saliger, is participating at the Salzburg Forum seminar, titled Open Societies Under Attack: The Return of ideology. The seminar is organised by International Peace Institute between 4th and 6th September 2016, held in a beautiful historic Schloss Leopoldskron – home to famous theatre director and actor Max Reinhardt, and internationally renowned for the Sound of Music film, filmed on this location and its surroundings. The seminar will bring together diplomats, academics, participants from intelligence communities and politicians, journalists and representatives from civil society.

Laibach and RTV Symphony Orchestra are preparing a unique show in Ljubljana on September 2nd 2016, that will be held inside the courtyard of Križanke (Crosswords) – the former Monastery of the Holy Cross of the Order of Teutonic Knights. Anton Podbevšek Teater (APT) is staging the première of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, directed by Matjaž Berger, on 15 March 2016 at 8 pm at the Božidar Jakac Art Museum in Kostanjevica na Krki. The performance is based on one of Nietzsche’s central ideas regarding the overman surpassing himself through inner transformation. The project is a collaborative effort featuring Laibach (original music) and actors and co-creators. The performance, staged at the historic Kostanjevica church, will offer the interpretation of Nietzsche as a radical and original thinker oriented towards the future.

Laibach is announcing the first part of the 2016 Sound of Music Tour. The group will present part of the program that made up their controversial Pyongyang performance in the Summer 2015, including some new interpretations of the songs from the world’s renowned ‘Sound of Music’ musical. In addition, the band will also perform some older songs, among them ‘Now You Will Pay’ and ‘The Great Divide’ from the 2003 album WAT – both dealing with the current emigrant crisis and refugee problematic in Europe and in Middle East. Laibach is going to North Korea! In August 2015, Laibach will perform in the secretive Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The concerts are currently scheduled for the 19th and 20th of August in Pyongyang. Laibach’s Liberation Day Tour will coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Korean peninsula’s liberation from Japanese colonization and subsequent division into two enemy states. The concerts will also be subject of a documentary film scheduled for premiere in 2016.
On July 4th Laibach is celebrating its 35th Anniversary with a very special event in their hometown of Trbovlje, Slovenia, consisting of two concerts, an installation and a party gathering on Mount Kum. An installation and concerts will happen in Delavski Dom Trbovlje. Laibach will reveal part of the program specially created for North Korea.

The Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana is currently presenting an extensive exhibition on Laibach and Neue Slowenische Kunst 1980 – 1992, open until August 17th. The original 1980s Laibach members will perform a Musical Nocturne industrial sound improvisation on the terrace of the Museum on Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 PM. Cold Spring released the semi-official, legendary 1000 only vinyl from 1985 (Walter Ulbricht Schallfolien), now a highly sought-after collectors piece. Cold Spring released the CD version (2003, repressed 2006) and are now releasing this gem on a stunning picture disc with new artwork, based on the traditional German ehrenscheibe style.
Laibach is participating in an exhibition ‘Grammar of Freedom, Five Lessons’ at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, curated by Zdenka Badovinac, Snejana Krasteva and Bojana Piškur. Exhibition will last between February 6th and April 19th 2015.

Laibach is opening the Industrial Art Biennial (IAB) in a historic Istrian city of Labin, Croatia, September 19th, 2014 with a Red District exhibition. Industrial Art Biennial (IAB) is a new art festival project of Labin Art Express XXI (L.A.E. XXI), which would be held first as a pilot-project in 2014 in Labin, and from 2015 biennially in Labin as well as at some other industrial locations in Istria (Raša, Pula, Rovinj,…), while from 2019 it should take place also under the ground, in the former coal mine 160 m below ground level, where L.A.E. XXI is developing its fundamental project Underground City XXI whose construction is planned to start in 2016.

A book “Geografia artystyczna Neue Slowenische Kunst. Wieloaspektowość i kolektywizm” (“The Artistic Geography of Neue Slowenische Kunst. Multifariousness and Collectivism”) was recently published by Joanna Szczepanik in collaboration with Katedra Wydawnictwo Naukowe and SWPS (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw). This is the first comprehensive study in Polish of the social and cultural phenomenon known as the artistic collective Neue Slowenische Kunst.

Eurovision video was filmed in the industrial area of Trbovlje (Slovenia), the home town of Laibach and nearby the Kum mountain. Parts of the video were also shot during the last winter ice cataclysm, when half of Slovenia was in a deep freeze for two weeks.

New and updated French and German translations of Alexei Monroe’s book on Laibach and NSK have been published this March. Following 2003’s Slovene language Pluralni monolit (Maska) and 2005’s Interrogation Machine (MIT), new editions are now available from Le Camion Noir in France and Ventil Verlag in Germany. Books are also available on Laibach WTC.
These editions contain a new chronology, illustrations and extensive new material covering developments over the last decade. The cover designs for both editions are by Andreas Plöger.

Laibach is participating in an exhibition, titled BLACK SQUARE – 100 YEARS, organised by Australian Experimental Art Foundation. The exhibition brings together a group of artists who respond to Malevich’s Black Square painting 100 years after its first appearance as an image, concept and benchmark in the history of 20th Century Western art.

Laibach was invited to collaborate at the Biennial of Contemporary Art, D-0 ARK Underground, taking place in Konjic, a small Bosnian town, in a Atomic shelter named ARK, which Yugoslav army built between 1953 and 1979. This shelter occupies a space of 6.500m2 and consists of 12 connected blocks. It resembles a complicated labyrinth, with residential areas, conference rooms, offices, strategic planning rooms, and other functional areas. The construction and existence of this bunker was kept secret until the 1990s, when ARK was finally revealed. Laibach was invited to participate at the group exhibition Materiality, open on Friday the 19th of April 2013, at 19:00 in KIBLA Portal, Valvasorjeva 40 (2nd storey), Maribor, Slovenia.
The Materiality exhibition features fifty one artists; the majority of the participating artists are from Slovenia, accompanied by international guest artists, invited on the basis of the selection of artworks connected to the theme of the exhibition. Laibach is participating with INSTRUMENTALITY OF THE STATE MACHINE installation.

Tomaž Hostnik was born on November 8th 1961 in Medvode near Ljubljana. He joined Laibach as a member of the group in 1981, firstly as a gramophone manipulator and later as lead vocalist (already Laibach’s third). He was a co-author of the Laibach Manifesto – the 10 Items of the Coventant – and he accepted the position of an anonymous engineer of human souls and the principle of collective authorship. Of the four Laibachian pseudonyms (EBER-SALIGER-KELLER-DACHAUER) he received the name ‘Ivo Saliger’. He also wrote a poem Apologia Laibach, which has become recognized as another – poeticised – manifesto of the group. Laibach is included in the ambitious exhibition, titled: YUGOSLAVIA : FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END, held the Museum of Yugoslav History / Museum May 25 in Belgrade, located next to Tito’s Mausoleum.
Exhibition, which was already opened on 1st December and will run till March 3rd 2013, will form the basis of future permanent exhibition of this institution. The current exhibition will run for three months, with an open invitation for dialogue, and after the reaction of academic and professional public, will result with the permanent exhibition on the history of Yugoslavia. Laibach is presented as one of the phenomenon within the cultural sphere, foreseeing (and foretelling) the end of the country. Read more…

On Friday, 19 October 2012, deep in the trenches of the Coal Mining Museum of Slovenia in Velenje, in addition to the already announced Laibach concerts at 18:30 and 20:30, a third concert has been added, starting at 22:30. The first two shows of the event Kohle ist Brot – Industrial Suite, which – for the first time in its history – Laibach will perform almost 200 metres below the surface of the Earth, sold out in just days. After performing in London’s Tate Modern earlier in April Laibach did a special performance in Copenhagen’s spectacular National Gallery of Denmark, on September the 15th. A sold out event included Artist talk, Iron Sky film projection and Laibach’s concert. Laibach performed in the venue where the artist Danh Vos is exhibiting exact 1:1 replica of the Statue of Liberty’s sculpture, decomposed in hundreds of individual pieces.

Laibach is announcing special retrospective concert performance in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, London, on April 14th, at 22:00h. Laibach has confirmed that it will play a show in the fabulous Roman Arena in Pula, Croatia, on August 18th, 2011. The performance will be part of a summer festival; Laibach will play together with Guano Apes and Apocalyptica.

Laibach has contributed to a project, dedicated to American music icon Bob Dylan, who this year celebrates his 70th birthday. The U.S. Embassy in Ljubljana is planning to showcase Dylan’s legacy with this project, and also to promote volunteerism among Slovenia’s youth. The Embassy is marking Dylan’s May 24th birthday by releasing a CD featuring many well-known Slovenian musicians, each covering a different Dylan song. On 12 May 2011, Laibach played a special (sold-out) “installation performance” of Die Kunst der Fuge at MACBA – Barcelona’s celebrated Museum of Contemporary Art. The event took place alongside the opening of a large retrospective exhibition of Eastern European arts entitled Museum of Parallel Narratives (1956-1986). In the framework of l’Internationale, which was curated by Zdenka Badovinac and organised and produced by Ljubljana’s Museum of Modern Art (Moderna galerija) in cooperation with Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA); the Július Koller Society (SJK), Bratislava; the Van Abbemuseum (VAM), Eindhoven; and Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst (M HKA), Antwerp.
The third teaser for the movie Iron Sky, titled “We Come in Peace!” has been released. Laibach is doing the music for this film.

As part of its third leg on its “Revisited” tour, Laibach performed on 14 May 2011 at the 2-day Short Circuit Electronic Music Festival in London’s cult-venue Roundhouse, where bands such as Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience and the renowned radical theatre group The Living Theatre gave historical performances in the 1960s. Laibach took the mainstage on the third and final day of the festival, following bands such as The Liars, The Residents and Erasure with guests Alison Moyet and Feargal Sharkey. Before and after Laibach, Andy Fletcher and Martin Gore from Depeche Mode played DJ sets on the same stage. At the end of their set, Laibach played a cover version of the legendary hit “Warm Leatherette”, which more than 30 years earlier marked the beginning of the label Mute Records, the host of the festival.

At the coming LAIBACH REVISITED tour in May 2001 and in the light of their 30th Anniversary the group will present newly arranged versions of some of their older tracks from the first half of 1980′s, like notorious Država (The State), Brat moj (Brother of Mine), Mi kujemo bodočnost (We Are Forging The Future) Krvava gruda – plodna zemlja (Bloody Ground – Fertile Soil) as well as selection of the material from their later albums.

Laibach and Umetnostna Galerija Maribor (UGM) are pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Ausstellung Laibach Kunst – Perspectives 2011 on February 24th, 2011.
Laibach are returning to the exhibition space. The exhibition comprises twelve rooms presenting key stages of Laibach’s work from the first decade of their career in the 1980s up to the present. The works on display include multi-media installations, oil paintings, photographs, graphic works, and film. The majority of works were not contained in last year’s exhibitions at MGCL Ljubljana and Delavski Dom Trbovlje. A new installation created especially for this exhibition, titled Artist Perspective, will be on view. This is the biggest Laibach Kunst exhibition in Slovenia to date. Read more…
The Laibach Kunst exhibition in HDLU Zagreb (CRO), originally planned for 23 November 2010, has been postponed till May 2011.

The Palac Sztuki museum of modern art in Łodz has finally released the catalogue of the Laibach exhibition held in the museum from May 26th until the end of August 2009. The full colour catalogueAUSSTELLUNG LAIBACH KUNST REKAPITULACJA / RECAPITULATION 2009 includes selected Laibach visual works from the end of 1970 until today, and separately presents works and installations from the Łodz exhibition. The catalogue also includes the most important manifestos and other Laibach texts, as well as rare photos and documents from the exhibition opening. The catalogue presents nine essays discussing Laibach, authored by Wiktor Skok, Taras Kermauner, Lev Kreft, Slavoj Žižek, Aleš Erjavec, Alexei Monroe, and Eda Čufer. After 30 years the group Laibach returns to Delavski Dom Trbovlje, where it will carry out a multimedia action, originally banned by local authorities in 1980.
On the 27th of September 1980 the group Laibach, formed that year in Trbovlje, prepared it’s ‘coming out’ under the patronage of Ljubljana’s ŠKUC Gallery. In the year 1945 the Nazis went to Moon, and in 2018 they are coming back. This is the premise of the sci-fi film Iron Sky, the upcoming movie project from the creators of the hugely popular internet hit Star Wreck. Laibach was asked to provide the soundtrack for the movie and has invited Ben Watkins (Juno Reactor) in collaboration on production of the score.

For its 30th Anniversary, Laibach is announcing three large-scale introspective exhibitions in 2010, in Ljubljana, Zagreb, and Trbovlje. Each of these exhibitions will present different aspect of Laibach’s visual and multimedia art. The Trbovlje exhibition will open in the Delavski Dom on September 26th, 30 years after the very first (forbidden) Laibach appearance at the same place in Laibach’s home town. With their video work XY Unsolved (1983, video interview, 12’56”) Laibach will participate in the exhibition “Promises of the Past”, between 26.5.-16.6.2010, at “Centre Pompidou”, Paris, France. Laibach’s work will be included in one of the five programs, together with films and videos that treat the subject of engaged artistic positions and subversive practices from the artists Irwin, Anonymous Artist, Milan Knizak, Zelimir Zilnik, and Endre Tot. The films will be presented as a projection on a screen of 4x3m in the auditorium, within the ambiental installation conceived by Tobias Putrih.

We are delighted to announce the opening of a large-scale Laibach exhibition in Muzeum Sztuki in Łodz (Poland), on May 26th 2009.
In 10 exhibition rooms Laibach will present the 10 Items of Covenant, 10 statements, 10 different installations. The exhibition will be a return to the group’s beginnings in 1980 and span different time periods.

DVD – Volk – Dead in Trbovlje (Mute/EMI) has been released on July 28th 2008.
DVD features footage from Volk concert in Trbovlje that took place on March 23rd 2007, music videos associated with Volk, selected film screens that are projected during the show, and a “tour medley” as bonus material.
On July 25th Laibach performed at the folk music festival Europeade 2008 at Les Caves du Manoir in Martigny (CH).
On May 31st Laibach performed on musical event A Night in Slovenia at Town Hall in New York (USA), organised by National Geographic Traveler and Slovenia Tourism Organisation.
Laibach is announcing the release of a brand new album, titled LAIBACHKUNSTDERFUGE.
Album is the laibachian interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s work The Art of Fugue (Die Kunst der Fuge). The majority of the material has been created already in 2006 and premierly performed the same year on June the 1st at Bachfest festival in Leipzig.
LAIBACHKUNSTDERFUGE is available as digital download at MUTE (EMI), and as a CD record, released by Dallas Records. Read more…
Turkiye, directed by Sašo Podgoršek and released by Mute Records, is the latest promotional video taken from Volk album.
Laibach Installation ‘Monumental Retroavantgarde / Monumentalna Retroavantgarda’ was on view at Kunsthaus Erfurt in Germany as part of the international show Kaufhaus des Ostens – KaDeOs.
Installation consists of TV interview XY – Unsolved from 1983, Laibach Einkauf (documentary by Sašo Podgoršek) and mixed media painting Monumentalna Retroavantgarda. On view from April 28th till June 16th 2007.
Sašo Podgoršek’s documentary film Divided States of America, was screened on Crossing Europe Festival in Linz (Austria) on 26th and 28th of April 2007.
In April 2007 film has also been invited to Singapore International Film Festival.
The next in Laibach’s series of DVD releases, ‘Divided States Of America’ with bonus footage of Laibach Live In Paris, was released on 13th November 2006 by Mute.
This film is a unique document of the Laibach tour, set during the traumatic post-election atmosphere in the USA, a country deeply divided by two opposite political and cultural poles. The tour has been therefore named “The Divided States of America Tour”.
Volk premiere concerts has been cancelled due to illness in ensemble and will be organised later in springtime. NSK Citizens and friends were invited to attend a traditional Laibach welcome party at the Kum mountain near Trbovlje on 27th October at 20:00.
LAIBACH announced a brand new album release VOLK released on Mute on 23rd October 2006.
In collaboration with Capsule and Cold Spring Records, I.C.R.N. – Industrialised Culture Research Network presented Return of the Repressive at Custard Factory in Birmingham (UK) from September 1st till September 3rd 2006.

Cherry Red Records, who released Laibach’s Nova Akropola in 1985*, has just launched its own download site, with tracks from Nova Akropola available.

Documentary film “Laibach: Divided States of America” directed by Sašo Podgoršek was enlisted on Motovun Film Festival programme, which took place in Motovun (Croatia) from 24th until 28th of July 2006.
Konzert für das Kreuzschach und vier Schachspieler
On June 1st 2006 the world premiere of Laibach’s interpretation of Bach’s Kunst der Fuge was held in Leipzig at Werk II.
A 90 min surround sound performance, titled as “Konzert fuer das Kreuzschach und vier Schachspieler”, was dedicated to Bach, Schoenberg, Kraftwerk, Capt. George Hope Verney, Fisher and Spaski.

Dr. Alexei Monroe’s book “Interrogation Machine – Laibach and NSK”, with particular focus on the performances and productions of Laibach, was published by MIT Press on November 30th 2005.
Published in MIT’s “Short Circuits” series, the book is an updated English language version of the sold-out Slovene version of the book “Pluralni monolit – Laibach in NSK” (Maska in 2003), supplemented with additional material, colour illustrations and a foreword by series editor Slavoj Zizek.
